HUMANITY OF STONE

DRY ARCHITECTURE "THE BEAUTY OF USEFUL"

With the Humanism Notion of the Stone in the 60s we wanted to indicate a world of belonging and not only geographical but cultural. The landscape between Murge Alte and Murge Basse that seems to be shaped by limestone, precisely by stones.

The raw material that Nature has offered to this land of Puglia since the Cretaceous, whose colors flicker from rosy to ivory.

This story/journey retraces the history of limestone between Alberobello-Locorotondo-Martina Franca because more than water it has been the primary source of life for the peoples who have succeeded there.

Stone that as a mother, now benign and now less, gives life or hides itself.

We will understand how a very particular rural architecture was born: from the limestone quarries of Bari, to the trulli and finally to the cummerse. You will discover how a territory has created a different and unique society in the world.
